How Big-named brands are harming Developing Countries

In places such as China and India, factory production and good production are huge contributors to the economy However, more often than not, the companies that contract these goods to be made care little for where they come from, and how they are made.

It's often that these factories use child workers in their staff, often in dangerous conditions deemed unacceptable by industry standards. Governments in first world countries encourage businesses to either better manage who they are contracting or to stop contracting in general for the sake of the exploited workers.

And it is not merely just children that are exploited; normal workers who actually need the job are exploited just as much as the children are. Unfair wages, unsafe working conditions and overly long hours are all common abhorrences in the disparity of worker exploitation.

These countries absolutely need 1st world countries and organizations to buy their product. This is how economies grow and cities are made, but when the fruits of the labor are made because the worker was exploited, it become a debate of whether or not the ends justify the means.

To say that no one should buy any product from these countries would be ridiculous. We need these goods about as much as they need to sell them. However, if we were to condition the production of these goods there may still yet be a chance.

If we can add certain conditions in order for us to buy, or better yet have the workers organize a proper union, then there is a chance for everyone to have a better and safer working environment.

There exists other alternatives for factory work as well, should urbanization be a near-goal for these countries. Automation in the industry would maximize efficiency and while the initial investment is costly, the long-run will prove to be very useful. However in the event of this happening (assuming the countries can actually afford such apparatuses) it would likely take up many jobs, given that a majority of these workers are uneducated and have absolute need for the work provided - even if they are unsafe.

There is a tremendous amount of waste that are send to 3rd and 2nd world countries - even Canada has its moments. A large majority of electronic waste thrown out or 'recycled' by companies are send to places such as China, Taiwan and Thailand. Not only is a lot of this waste harmful to the environment, but it encourages companies such as Foxconn to utilize this waste for their work load.
